Who We Are

Join the Dare County A250 Committee as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of our country—right here in a place known for some of our nation’s most iconic firsts. From the site of the first English settlement to the birthplace of powered flight, Dare County is proud to be part of America’s story. As the “Land of Beginnings,” we invite you to celebrate our shared history, heritage, and the enduring spirit of freedom that continues to define us. Dare County is proud to join communities across the nation in commemorating this historic milestone. With a focus on honoring our shared history, fostering education, and celebrating cultural achievements, Dare County’s America 250 Celebrations will showcase the unique contributions of our region to the broader story of the United States. Explore with us the pivotal events, places, and voices, both historical and modern, that make our county the land of beginnings.

What We Do

The Dare A250 Committee represents many community stakeholder groups across Dare County with the goal of celebrating our nation's 250th anniversary. There will be many exciting ways to take part in these celebrations in 2026—from volunteering at local events to participating in educational programs and community initiatives.
