Join the Island Farm team each Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday to help care for our heritage livestock, including sheep, chickens, oxen, Banker ponies, and mule. Volunteers will assist staff with:

Prior experience working with farm animals is preferred, but not required. This is a hands-on volunteer role and you will work closely with staff to take care of our heritage livestock! This is a reoccurring opportunity and a great way to support the operations of a working farm while gaining hands-on experience with heritage breeds.

All activities take place outdoors. Please bring a snack, a reusable water bottle, and wear close-toed shoes. Feel free to bring any additional items that help make your time at Island Farm festive and enjoyable (personal medication, hat, sunglasses, etc).

Attire should be appropriate for the outdoors. Close-toed shoes required. Long sleeve shirt, long pants, and hat recommended. Lightweight clothing/sports attire recommended to be comfortable and capable during your shift.

Are volunteer shifts family-friendly?

Volunteer: Visitor Services Volunteer (Pea Island - Rodanthe)

We're seeking local volunteers to help staff the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in Rodanthe. Volunteers will greet and provide information about local refuges, walking trails, wildlife, programs and events, and answer guest's questions. Volunteers may work independently or be paired with another volunteer. Responsibilities include opening/closing the visitor center, answering phones, using a cash register for the visitor center gift shop, and providing educational content. Birding and other wildlife knowledge is a plus! Please reach out for further information.
