Who We Are

The mission of the Roanoke Island Historical Association is to memorialize the Elizabethan History of Roanoke Island. This is primarily accomplished through the annual production of The Lost Colony and other educational programming.

What We Do

The Roanoke Island Historical Association is the producing organization of The Lost Colony, the oldest Outdoor Symphonic Drama in America. This production tells the true story of the first attempt of English colonization in America and tells the story of the Algonquin people that the English came into contact with. The show runs each summer and is staffed by local performers and technicians and performers from around the world. In addition to The Lost Colony, we also host Native American culture educational workshops once a week during the summer. In the off-season, we produce a large Wine Festival in the spring and an Oyster Roast in the fall, both of which serve as fundraisers to support our summer programming.
